07 Dec Self-builders boost
Self-builders will find it easier to kick-start dreams of building a home with the launch of new registers to support builders find plots.
The latest scheme put in place from the governments department or housing and building. This follows on from the self build finance initiative put in place on 2014. This latest legislation will see that local councils keep a record of self-builders application and projects. The idea being that good design and well built new homes will get additional support from their local planning officers. Again in principle it seems like a great way forward, but we know from first hand experience planning departments seem to work negatively on new applications.
Housing and Planning Minister Brandon Lewis said:
“Many other countries have a track record of delivering large numbers of local homes through self-build and we’re determined to ensure self and custom housebuilding grows significantly.”
“The new registers are a fantastic example of our commitment to double the number of custom and self build homes by 2020 – so anyone who wishes to design their dream house can do so.”
“This government is committed to increasing housing supply and helping more people achieve their aspiration of home ownership – whether that’s buying on the open market through schemes like Help to Buy, or by building or commissioning their own home.”
The reaction from those in power is as yet to be seen, but we can but hope to gain more proactive attitudes from those in principle positions
